I was lucky to find food as a teenager and started as an apprentice chef aged 16. I’ve cooked in Australia, Ireland, England and Turkey. Food travels have brought me further afield to eat in Egypt, India, Japan, Spain, France, Italy and most recently Singapore and Vietnam.
I settled in Melbourne in 1990 and started writing for The Age epicure and Gourmet Traveller magazine in 1994. Together with co-author Michele Curtis I began the Foodie’s Diary in 1995 as a way to remind food lovers about the importance of using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Foodie’s Guide to Melbourne followed soon after and reviews the best food stores in Melbourne. The latest Campion & Curtis cookbook is titled In The Kitchen. Overall there have been over 30 Campion and Curtis books and food guides.
My work these days sees me with plenty of food writing, giving talks at seminars and conferences, hosting festival stages at events like The Bright and Sandy Festival, Restaurant 09, Chocolate Rush and the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. I also operate two businesses - Melbourne Food Tours and Melbourne Cooking Classes.
